Creating high-quality print and eBook publications to publishing industry standards

Sunset Publishing Services has a long history in providing publishing services to many of Australia’s leading book publishers and self-publishers. Our skills and services cover a wide range of functions for the publishing industry including editing, proofreading, designing, typesetting, illustrating and prepress. Some of our staff have been working in this industry for over 20 years, which brings quite a degree of confidence to our major book publishing clients and first-time authors.

For self-publishers we are regularly adding information to the ‘Bright Ideas’ section of our website. This is designed to provide tips and hints that will assist first-time and experienced authors in the otherwise daunting task of taking a manuscript through the rigorous process of preparing for professional publishing in either printed or eBook format.

Non-fiction books

Sunset Publishing Services has produced many non-fiction books including reference books, autobiographies, historical books, pictorials, cookbooks, atlases and mapping titles. Our name (as Sun Photoset Pty Ltd or Sunset Publishing Services Pty Ltd) is carried on the imprint pages of more than 1000 published titles. Some examples are below.

Around Australia

We were asked to produce both the first and second editions of Around Australia, a 400-page, high-quality, colour pictorial and reference book aimed at motorhoming and caravanning enthusiasts. This book provides details on the best routes and sightseeing opportunities throughout Australia. Hema Maps also added their detailed touring maps as a ready reference to the many locations and features in the book, with cross-references to the maps provided in the general text.

For the same authors, we have designed The Ultimate Travelling Companion, a 200-page book full of essential information on recreational vehicles, caravans, campervans, motorhomes and travel equipment. This book is colour coded, containing hundreds of pictures and colour break-out boxes for tips. It also has an advertising section full of related colour advertisements.

Reconstruction Task Force 3

Our company produced a full-colour ‘coffee table’ book for Australian soldiers who had served in Afghanistan. Accompanying the book was a DVD containing movies, newsletters and many more photos that could not fit into the printed publication. This book was nominated for a design and print award.

Cookbooks

For a major book publisher, we have produced a number of recipe books in the Food Bible series.

Bibliographies

We are proud to have been involved with The Bibliography of Australian Literature, a multi-volume set of literary history, which is the result of more than 15 years of collaborative research into the publication history of creative writing by Australian authors. The volumes contain details on over 10 000 Australian literary authors and their works, dating from 1788 to 2000. Our involvement included proofreading, indexing of all the authors’ works, and typesetting more than 2000 pages of text.
